Anniversary Letter, October 12, 1921

Editor's Notes

Regular readers will note most of the correspondence from John to Sue is written on hotel stationery. I often transcribe the stationary information as it appears on the letters. It used to be that every hotel in the country had stationary and a pen tucked in the drawer of the desk along with the “Gideon” Bible. I find the list of enhancements for each of these, “hot and cold running water in all rooms”, “steam heat” etc. to be interesting. Hotel stationery was quite common in my lifetime of traveling during my professional career, It never included the list of Amenities at the hotel and certainly not the names of the owners or proprietors. I find the stationary for this hotel particularly interesting as It advertises a woman as a “proprietress” a word I'd never heard before. It would certainly be unusual in the 1920s for a woman to be the manager of a hotel.

My Darling Sue:

Whenever I come into this town, my mind goes back to that Saturday some years ago when I came Here at noon and in the afternoon and evening took four or five orders and finished out $1000 week and got home at about 2:00 AM. Sunday. All is changed now and have not had an order here in many moons.

I got the Co. letter at Cadasia forwarded from Binghamton but did not get a letter from you. Hope you are feeling fine. I am looking forward to our 25th with much pleasurable anticipation. It doesn't seem possible that two such youthful persons as we are have been married for so many years. Tell Frank hurrah for the Giants. Frank always guesses wrong and the important athletic events.

Have one loan order for $50. Pretty junk. Can't find the orders.

Your loving,

Jack

John has excellent handwriting. However, in some instances, I cant decipher it. If I can't, I simply mark the spot with "xxx"s to signify thank the word isn't decipherable.
