My Darling:

Guess you will need a wood fire in furnace tonight. It has grown cold all day and my old coat is none too warm. I did the errands for Frank, all right. Mr. Maher did not say much, but suppose he was disappointed, as I often am. He was very pleasant about it. The other store took my check and I suppose the clerk was pleased. Hope Frank is in shape to go into winter without suffering. I wish the coat we took back were suitable for me. I would like it for driving at least. I must buy a coat, I suppose, but I dread it. Have worked in Herkimer and one or two towns along the way, but no business. I ought to be very happy. I am thankful for your love and happiness. Have almost been homesick today. You see I have gone by Little Falls and have changed my route. I may drive to Gloversville after supper. If not, will leave early in the morning. It is much nearer than to go back to Little Falls. Send your next letter to Gloversville, Windsor Hotel and the next after to Amsterdam. Will leave Amsterdam Saturday for home or possibly I may leave Friday, so as to show Bank Service to bankers along the way then on next trip out this way I can go by train. Hope you get this in the morning so you can get letter to me for Gloversville.

I wish I could feel a thrill of enthusiasm about business And things in general, but I can't or don't just now.

Love to each,

John

If you're new to this project, please consider going to our site and catching up with a few letters from the 1900-1910 era. The letters only take 3-5 minutes to read and you'll find the characters more fully develop if you read the letters chronologically.

John has excellent handwriting. However, in some instances, I cant decipher it. If I can't, I simply mark the spot with "xxx"s to signify thank the word isn't decipherable.
